In most of the cases root canal therapy is needed due to the damage or decay or death of a tooth, caused by any other reason. During root canal therapy the inflamed or dead, infected pulp is removed, followed by cleaning and disinfection of the root canals, thereafter placing the filling material therein. Pain can be eliminated in this way, and any further infection or source of infection can be avoided, furthermore a tooth can be saved.
